Monkey Chimes (2015)

Sound works on radio

‘Monkey Chimes’ features spoken word followed by the guttural sounds of Howler Monkeys that I recorded in Mexico during a Clipperton Project expedition in 2014. The transmissions at noon and midnight were timed to synchronise with dawn and dusk in Mexico when the Howler Monkeys make their calls.

Scripted and recorded by Stephen Hurrel. Voice by Nerea Bello.

Monkey Chimes  was produced for the radio-art station Radiophrenia that transmitted across Glasgow on FM radio and worldwide online, from the CCA, Glasgow, 13th – 19th April, 2015. Radiophrenia was produced by sound artists Mark Vernon and Barry Burns with support from Creative Scotland.
